April Sun is an outdoor music series taking place at the St Kilda Triangle, a space being trans- formed into a live music venue at one of Australia's most iconic foreshore locations. The series running from April 15 to May 2 will see 11 days and nights of live and diverse music genres.
Tonights show, third in the series, was a real treat. Predominantly a 90’s retro show, punters were treated to some exceptional performances by Oz rock giants.
Starting at the very un-rock and roll time, just before 6, saw The Casanovas kick off, playing a blistering set, mostly consisting of tracks lifted from their newly release album ‘Reptilian Overlord’. Following on soon after Dallas Crane hit the stage, playing a range of tunes from their long career, not disappointing the welcoming crowd.
After another short break Magic Dirt graced the large April Sun stage tearing through classics ’Plastic Loveless Letter’ and ‘Dirty Jeans’. Even though the lineup is different now for Magic Dirt, original members Raul Sanchez and Adalita leave your ears feeling like its 1998.
Currently on the cusp of releasing their 11th studio album, ‘The Lives of Others’, You Am I opened their headline set with the current single ‘The Waterboy’ to a rapturous crowd. Playing a number of new tunes, it was great to hear classic You Am I staples ‘Get Up’, ‘Mr Milk’ and ‘Cathy’s Clown’. The ever eccentric Tim Rogers thanked the punters for venturing out and concluding with an encore of ‘Rumble’ and ‘Berlin Chair’.
