After possibly one of the longest reschedules I can think of (March 2021), Eskimo Joe grace us with their presence at the iconic Forum, joined by Geelong local Adalita.
Opening the evening to a sold out room, Adalita kicks things off with a dynamic version of Hot Air, from her debut self titled album then continues through a handful off tracks from All Day Venus along with few new tracks from her soon to be released Inland album. The rowdy crowd are receptive and warmly encouraging as Adalita concludes her short set with Blue Sky also from the aforementioned album.
For fans of Eskimo Joe, this was definitely a show not to be missed. Playing their albums A Song Is A City and Black Fingernails, Red Wine in their entirety is hard to top and a mammoth effort by the band.
Opening with 2004’s A Song Is A City saw the band launch straight into the album tracks, peppered by various stories around the making of the album, including Kav Temperley recounting how the title track was deeply inspired by the well known Bill Withers hit, ‘Aint No Sunshine.
After a short recess and stage attire change, the band leapt straight back onto stage to play 2006’s Black Fingernails, Red Wine from top to bottom. This album saw a large amount of success for the band winning ARIA’s for Engineer of the Year, Producer of the Year, Single of the Year and Best Music DVD.
What a treat to see such great live and local act like Eskimo Joe AND for the encore, we were treated to the track that started it all off for them, and not often played theses days, Sweater! Such a great way to end the evening.
