Dark Mofo 2022 Program

DARK MOFO
2022

Eccentricities aside, everything this festival brings to Hobart(that has sorely been missed over the last little stint) is necessary, important - be it essential - to the culture, not only of its local community, but Australia as a collective. Below we give but a snippet of things in store for those venturing the cold winters of Hobart this coming June.

The Dark Mofo checklist of events and music acts always draws attention - positive or negative, its irrelevant - and this year upon its return to the bone cold climates, is no different. Carrying all the weight of controversy, wonder and intrigue .

The 2022 incarnation of Dark Mofo, spans over two weeks in June.

Tassies celebration of art & music has announced its line up in full, carrying with it a decent chunk of local and international talent, the stack of acts comes as diverse as it gets. Headlined by Grammy-nominated Kamilaroi artist, The Kid Laroi with his eclectic chart topping mix of pop and rap stylings.

Immersive experiences continuing to be at the forefront of the festivals cultural exchange, will feature the likes of award winning soundtrack from the HBO series ‘Chernobyl’, performed by composer Hildur Guðnadóttir with Chris Watson and Sam Slater.

Covering the essential heavy end of the spectrum will be two evenings of dark nights and deafening metal; Hymns to the Dead (featuring Triumph of Death, Chthe'ilist, Krypts, Darkestrah) and Sanctae Noctis (featuring Katatonia, Deafheaven, Lingua Ignota, Conjurer, King Yosef, Black Sheep Wall, Diploid, YLVA).

On the somewhat lighter side of darkness, Chelsea Wolfe and Emma Ruth Rundle strewn the melancholy and heavy doom aspect of things.

Keeping the lineup on its toes and forcing diversity the likes of Spiritualized, Moses Sumney, Baxter Dury, Triptykon along with so many more will take part, sprinkled amidst all the chaos.

The inclusion of works by influential video and new media artist Bill Viola, as well as sculpturist and multi-channel video artist Doug Aitken (USA), bring the visual aspect of the festival to its necessary staple.

Among the multitude of interactive installations, the unique tonal stylings of Sigur Rós vocalist Jónsi will deliver a multi-channel immersive experience inspired by the recent eruption of the Fagradalsfjall volcano in Iceland.

Everything kicking off on Wednesday, 8th June and runs through til Wednesday 22nd June.
