Continuing on the Australian leg of their ‘End Of Suffering’ tour, Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes stopped into Melbourne’s Croxton Bandroom early last week to bring a sense of scintillating energy to a room full of eager fans.
The Rattlesnakes brought along Psychobabel and A. Swayze and The Ghosts to warm the room up for them. Both band’s themselves had a dedicated crowd with A Swayze and The Ghosts making a particularly large impact early in the evening. Much like The Rattlesnakes later in the night, A Swayze and The Ghosts filled the room with an electric energy that set a solid base for Frank Carter to work with.
As usual, Andrew Swayze, was an endless pit of power, spitting his punk vocals across the band-room. Their most recent release, “Connect To Consume” was a hit, displaying the band’s talent for lively performances and exciting songwriting. This went along with other popular tracks “Suddenly”, “Smooth Sailing” and “I.C.U” coming together to set an incredibly dynamic atmosphere heading into Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes.
Frank Carter’s performance earlier in the week left little to be imagined, while the band’s recordings have a tendency to remain ‘hard rockesque’ the live performance that Frank and the crew brought to the Croxton was anything but.
Endless energy would have been an easy way to describe Frank Carter who most likely spent more time singing off of the main stage and amongst the crowd than alongside his band.
Frank openly touted at the start of the performance that they were very different in their crowd participation than any other band the crowd had seen, and he certainly wasn’t wrong, going along with his hijinks around the Croxton’s band-room, Frank also created a lady’s only circle pit at some point, giving the women in the crowd an opportunity to have at the mosh.
The band’s setlist capitalised on their 2019 release End Of Suffering with their now incredibly popular number “Crowbar” being a highlight along with “Kitty Sucker”, “Heartbreaker”, “Angel Wings” and “Anxiety” all featured from the album. Of course, previous albums Modern Ruin and Blossom were also involved through “I Hate You”, “Acid Veins” and “Snake Eyes”.
Kicking into the crowd, dancing and singing across the top of one of the bars and involving himself in the mosh gave Frank a tenacious presence on the night while The Rattlesnakes rumbled behind giving a perfect soundscape for the occasion.
