The anticipation could be felt all round John Cain Arena as Bullet For My Valentine kicked off the Australian leg of their tour in Melbourne with what would be their biggest show in the city to date. The night was a celebration of two decades of metalcore, with a lineup that promised to deliver an unforgettable experience from start to finish
While She Sleeps Kicking off the night, fresh off a gruelling 35-hour flight from the UK. The jet lag was nowhere to be seen as they ignited the crowd with explosive energy. The mosh pit was a maelstrom of activity, with circle pits erupting from the first note. The band's connection with the crowd was immediate and intense. That connection peaking during "Four Walls," as a sea of phone lights illuminated JC Arena, creating a truly memorable moment. Throughout their set, a constant stream of bodies flowed over the barrier, a testament to the band's ability to command one of the most active and full mosh pits, especially considering they were the opening act, on a weeknight.
The Devil Wears Prada for those of us close enough we could hear through the drawn curtain side of stage the pre-stage chants of The Devil Wears Prada. With an impressive and transformative career spanning 20 years, DWP show no signs of slowing down. being just months away from dropping their newest album, they treated the crowd to a taste of what's to come, performing new tracks like "Ritual" and "ForYou." The crowd was fully engaged, with phone lights once again filling the air showcasing the deep connection they've forged with their Australian audience over two decades.
Bullet For My Valentine The main event began with a captivating voice-over and a montage of footage from 20 years of media coverage, setting the stage for Bullet For My Valentine's triumphant return. They wasted no time, blasting into their set with a barrage of pyro lining both the front and back of the stage. This was their biggest show in Melbourne to date, and they came out swinging.
The highlight of the night, and the reason for the tour was the 20th-anniversary celebration of their landmark debut album, The Poison. Widely regarded by many fans as their strongest effort, the album launched them to the forefront of the melodic metalcore scene
With The Poison being played in its entirety, the crowd singing along to every word of classics like "Tears Don't Fall" and "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)." The setlist was a journey back in time, culminating in a walk-off after the album's conclusion. The roar of the crowd brought them back for an encore, where they finished the night with a 3-track encore of "Knives", "Scream Aim Fire" and the powerful "Waking the Demon," leaving the crowd with one final surge of energy and a perfect end to an incredible night of metalcore.
The tour will continue on to Sydney and Brisbane, with While She Sleeps and The Devil Wears Prada alternating support slots, ensuring that each night of the tour is a unique and unforgettable experience.
