Tour Insights with: Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
The boys are most certainly back in town. With the dust still settling on the band’s impressive second edition of their sold out DR. NOGGIN-FLOGGIN & THE LIQUID FRIENDS FESTIVAL last month, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are getting back to business at hand - delivering new music for their hungry fan base to get around with new single ‘KEEN FOR KICK ONS?’.
Before they kick off their extensive overseas jaunt of tour dates, We caught up with singer and all-round party enthusiast Jack McEwan to chat all things tours. Have a read of the full interview below.
With your huge tour through the UK & US about to kick off, what are the essentials you must take with you, "never leave home with out it" type items?
Well seeing as the US is going through this Polar Vortex ordeal and it's literally colder than Mars I reckon a military grade jacket, thermals and some snow boots are in order, triple sock layering, balaclava, beanie, ear mittens, gig sherpa. It's about 60 degrees different to Perth. Other than that I'm a pretty easy bloke, one day I'd like a compass so when those 3am stumbles occur and the phones deceased I can Bear Grills it back to the accom.
Your latest single "Keen For Kick Ons?" recently dropped. Whilst touring, are kick ons commonplace, or is it more about the self preservations? A cup of tea and go to bed, well rested for the next day..
We probably need to, we always joke that we wish we became folk musicians. PPC gigs usually entice the stranger members of society and they want to share all their fun tokens with you, so it's hard to get a good rest when you're in deep conversation with a fire hydrant. Kick On's is a bit of fun, life shouldn't be serious so the single kinda reflects that. It doesn't help that we're quite a FOMO group either so once we've played the gig we're off to NEVER-NEVER LAND URGHHHHH (Yarl). We've created a term for it, "Full Norton". To be Fully Norton'd takes a lot but when you're in good company anything can happen really.
Assuming that the mode of transportation will be via the road, what will you guys generally do to pass the time?
Last tour consisted of lots of 70's bangers, a morning powerade, servo sandwich and the odd castle stop. I love castles, I like the gardens, Europe is filled with this beautiful architecture and interesting history, I feel like my brain grew, it did swell a bit. You can't beat the country side, or a good forest, Australia is a bit dry, there's only so much orange dirt one human can handle before you plough into a kangaroo at 120/kmh, The East coast is really beautiful but North West WA is a miserable drive.
Ever had any boarder issues?
Leaving the U.K to enter France via the channel tunnel was a bit difficult, in fact coming back in was even harder, We we're all passed out in the van and our tour manager had to hold up our heads so the customs people could check our passports. They did let us in which was nice and it's always fun waking up in a different country without any recollection of travelling.
Plans to hit the road in oz during 2019 or is that on the down low for now?
Big things dropping in May/June!
