Scott Darlow ANNOUNCES INSANE 30 DATE REGIONAL TOUR
Melbourne-based artist Scott Darlow, hailing from the Yorta Yorta community, has announced the upcoming release of his latest record, titled "Deadly Heart," scheduled to be released on October 27. To coincide with the album release, he has shared the title track, a powerful duet featuring Hayley Mary from The Jezabels. In addition to this exciting news, Darlow has also unveiled plans for a comprehensive thirty-date regional tour across Australia, with most shows offering free entry.
Recognized for his passionate activism and advocacy work, Scott Darlow aims to convey a significant message through his music. The lead single, "Deadly Heart," delves into the nation's ability to truly stand together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The duet poses challenging questions about effecting change and striving for a stronger and united future while acknowledging an important historical context.
Darlow's upbringing abroad, accompanying his father's work travels, granted him a unique perspective of constantly feeling like an outsider. This perspective has profoundly influenced his music, which often explores the intricate dynamics between Indigenous and non-Indigenous relationships. Reflecting on "Deadly Heart," Darlow describes it as a song that simultaneously addresses the struggles of a couple trying to stay together and a nation attempting to unite. He wrote the song during the pandemic, symbolizing the ongoing journey of the nation to listen to one another's stories and embrace shared narratives.
For Darlow, creating music is a means to uplift his family and community. He acknowledges the cliché but authentic intention of making a difference for Aboriginal people in everything he does. Through his music, he hopes to foster a better understanding among listeners and contribute to the collective goal of national unity.
With the upcoming album and regional tour, Darlow aims to connect with audiences who may not always engage in the conversations he initiates through his songwriting. He expresses gratitude for the support he has received from rock radio and hopes his music resonates with those seeking to explore the stories he aims to tell, ultimately working toward a more unified nation.
Anticipating the extensive regional tour, Darlow enthusiastically shares his desire to emulate the legendary pub rock scene of Australia. Drawing inspiration from iconic bands such as Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, AC/DC, and INXS, who performed in pubs across the country, Darlow plans to traverse Australia, delivering electrifying rock shows to audiences everywhere. Embracing the rich heritage of guitar-driven rock bands in the country, he aspires to keep that tradition alive during the tour. With a bus, his close friends, a PA system, and powerful Fender guitars and amps, Darlow is thrilled to embark on this musical journey and share his songs with anyone eager to relive the spirit of the past.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Scott Darlow, a former school teacher, dedicates his time to singing and speaking at schools across Australia, the UK, and Asia. As part of his extensive regional tour, he plans to incorporate school appearances in various towns, using his music as a platform to share his culture, discuss identity, and educate about the impact of colonization on First Nations people.
Darlow's commitment to social impact extends to his visits to prisons throughout Australia, where he uses music as a tool to connect and inspire incarcerated individuals, particularly those from First Nations backgrounds. He acknowledges the disproportionate representation of Indigenous people in the country's jails and aims to remind those individuals of their worth and the available pathways to success. While this aspect of his work is both uplifting and disheartening, Darlow finds fulfillment in making a positive difference in the lives of incarcerated individuals.
Having entered the Australian music scene in 2003, Scott Darlow, a descendant of the Yorta Yorta community, has become a prominent figure in the Indigenous and independent music industry. Known for his versatility as a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and didgeridoo player, he has sold over 50,000 albums worldwide and extensively toured Australia, Asia, and the USA. As a passionate Indigenous activist and World Vision spokesperson, Darlow actively engages with schools, businesses, and churches, sharing his Indigenous culture, discussing Australian history, promoting racial tolerance, harmony, and addressing important social issues. His mantra of "FLUTE" (Forgiveness, Love, Understanding, Tolerance, and Empathy) has gained widespread popularity, being incorporated into school curriculums and charters.
"Deadly Heart" will be released on October 27 through Reclusive Records, and pre-saving/pre-ordering is now available. The national Deadly Heart regional tour will commence on July 1 at The Espy in Melbourne, culminating in a final show at Corner Hotel in Melbourne on October 28.
Scott Darlow's career has spanned over a decade, establishing him as a respected figure in Australia's Indigenous and independent music scene. His ability to captivate audiences through his storytelling, musical talents, and commitment to social change solidify his position as an artist with a powerful message. With an upcoming album under Michael Gudinski's record label Reclusive Records, Darlow is poised to make a lasting impact in 2023 and beyond.
