The Wombats may be in for a temporary hibernation. Instead Matthew Murphy, the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist, brought his new project, Love Fame Tragedy, to a sold out show with opening support from Brisbane’s Austen. Playing to a crowd of excitable fans at Howler on a Wednesday night, the infectious pop hooks came as easily as the sing-alongs. While the 40-minute, 10 song set was just a short taste of what’s on the horizon for Murphy, it’s clear Melbourne’s always here to welcome him back with open arms.
